Sunday March 3, 2019. A few thousand Algerians and French of Algerian origin gathered at Place de la République to protest against the candidacy of the Bouteflika clan in Algiers for the next presidential election. With great blows of songs repeated in chorus by the crowd, with great blows of "Bou Ti Flika Di Gage!" So quite astonishing, I felt a bit the same as on February 28, 2005 in Beirut. I sincerely hope for the Algerians that they will not be stuffed like the Lebanese and that they will not wake up in 2033 with the same gang of mafia in power. Because in Beirut, it's not very glorious. This is where all these beautiful slogans about "power to the people" sometimes seem very illusory to me.
