Summer 2010. I started to write forty texts to turn a long page of my life.
Fall 2010. I finish faster than expected, and organize my photos taken from my film and digital archives, with each text. I reread and rewrite, over and over again.
Winter 2010. I meet Sara Sehnaoui, director of Amers Editions.
Spring 2011. Graphic designer Youmna Habbouche starts working on the layout of the book.
Summer 2012. Yasmeen Kharrat is working on translating into English. The book takes shape.
Fall 2011. The beautiful team publishes together Beyrouth suroute / Wiretapping Beirut . For the launch of the book, I thank my lucky star: a small miracle opens the doors of the Grande brasserie du Levant , in Geitawi. A magical place.
Beirut on Listening is therefore a collection of 41 relatively short texts, all followed by an image which gives the key to understanding each story. I voluntarily lost myself in the history of the Levant, from the Middle Ages to the present day, meeting characters that I did not know, discovering little-known historical anecdotes ... Keeping my eyes wide open for give the city a better voice.
